It’s Our Earth Day Birthday!

Seed Phytonutrients launched with one goal: to radically upend the beauty and personal-care business, especially where its impact on our planet is concerned. And while no member of Seed’s dedicated team of eco-warriors would ever utter the phrase “mission accomplished,” we have managed to effect real change in a relatively short time period—thanks, in great part, to your activism. So as Seed Phytonutrients approaches its first birthday on April 22nd, Earth Day, let’s all take a moment to celebrate what we’ve achieved together over the past year:

  • With revolutionary packaging company Ecologic, we developed the world’s first shower-stable paper bottle, made from 100% post-consumer recycled materials that are not just recyclable, but compostable.

  • When Seed launched, the 100% post-consumer recycled plastic inserts in our products were made of 60% less plastic than comparably sized bottles. Just a year later, they now require 70% less than their traditional counterparts, and we’re continuously striving to decrease plastic use. Even better? Because the paper and plastic remain separate entities, both materials can be easily recycled.

  • As a result, Seed, Ecologic, and our other partners—including YOU!—have diverted 10.4 tons of plastic from our oceans and landfills since last April’s launch.

  • We’ve also partnered with TerraCycle, which transforms each bottle’s harder-to-recycle plastic and metal pump into farm fences and Adirondack chairs. This option makes Seed’s packaging zero-waste.

  • Seed Phytonutrients sources its botanical ingredients from independent American farmers who raise their crops sustainably, and we pay those farmers up-front, regardless of yield—support that issues a strong rebuke to the current agricultural-industrial complex and its reliance on pesticides, herbicides, and GMOs.

  • A Hudson Valley Seed Company packet is tucked inside each of our paper bottles. Since last April, we’ve distributed nearly 300 lbs of organically grown heirloom seeds, ensuring that these storied, hardy varieties remain in wide circulation.

When we launched Seed, we believed that we weren’t the only ones who wanted a better, more sustainable, beauty option. You stood beside us. And now, a mere year later, our products are available at 800+ retail locations, including Sephora, Whole Foods, & Ulta, delivering vegan, cruelty-free, haircare and skincare—that never contains formaldehyde, silicones, sulfates, parabens, or phthalates—to customers nationwide.
